چکیده

To simulate the behaviour of a nuclear power reactor it is necessary to be able to integrate the time-dependent neutron diffusion equation inside the reactor core. In particular, we will consider here VVER-type reactors which use the neutron diffusion equation discretized on hexagonal meshes. Several algorithms to integrate the time dependent neutron diffusion equation have been developed, by means of modal methods [1] or implicit methods for the time integration scheme. The present work is focused on developing method to deal with this problem on hexagonal geometries. Transients involving the movement of the control rod banks have the problem known as the rod cusping effect.

Modelling the catalyst fragmentation pattern in relation to molecular properties and particle overheating in olefin polymerization

A two-dimensional single particle finite element model was used to examine the effects of particle fragmental pattern on the average molecular weights, polymerization rate and particle overheating in heterogeneous Ziegler-Natta olefin polymerization. A two-site catalyst kinetic mechanism was employed together with a dynamic two-dimensional molecular species in diffusion-reaction equation. The i...

Preconditioning the solution of the time-dependent neutron diffusion equation by recycling Krylov subspaces

After the spatial discretization of the neutron diffusion equation, a semidiscrete system of ordinary differential equations is obtained. This is a stiff system of differential equations, where the matrices involved are large and sparse. Usually, this system is solved using an implicit time discretization, which implies to solve an algebraic system of linear equations for this time step. This t...

An Analytical Solution on Size Dependent Longitudinal Dynamic Response of SWCNT Under Axial Moving Harmonic Load

The main purposes of the present work are devoted to the investigation of the free axial vibration, as well as the time-dependent and forced axial vibration of a SWCNT subjected to a moving load. The governing equation is derived through using Hamilton's principle. Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity theory has been utilized to analyze the nonlocal behaviors of SWCNT. A Galerkin method based on a clo...

Solving the Time-dependent Transport Equation Using Time- Dependent Method of Characteristics and Rosenbrock Method

A new approach based on the method of characteristics (MOC) and Rosenbrock method is developed to solve the timedependent transport equation in one-dimensional (1D) geometry without any approximation and considering delayed neutrons. Within the MOC methodology, the leakage term in time-dependent transport equation can be simplified to spatial derivative of the angular flux along the characteris...

Progress in Nodal Methods for the Solution of the Neutron Diffusion and Transport Equations

-Recent progress in the development of coarse-mesh nodal methods for the numerical solution of the neutron diffusion and transport equations is reviewed. In contrast with earlier nodal simulators, more recent nodal diffusion methods are characterized by the systematic derivation of spatial coupling relationships that are entirely consistent with the multigroup diffusion equation. These relation...
